With all the years I’ve spent in the kitchen, there are certain things I’ve developed a distaste for, even more so now that I have my own kitchen and cook on a regular basis. So today, I am sharing with you some of my biggest cooking pet peeves:
- Over Salting: yes, we’ve discussed how important salt is when it comes to the final outcome of any dish, and I personally don’t shy away from seasoning at every stage, but I’ve seen some people salt the hell out of their food! I mean, I know flavour is good, but that can’t be healthy!
- Over-Dressed Salads: This is a big one for me; nothing worse than a soggy or heavily drenched salad.
- Licking Your Fingers, handling your food and NOT washing your hands; I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t be comfortable eating anything that came out of that kitchen!
- Messy Workstations: can’t stand them! Whatever happened to ‘tidy up as you go’?
- Messy Presentations: I myself am very partial to keeping things casual and rustic, but not everything messy is necessarily rustic, so keep an eye on that very fine line the next time you start plating.
- Cats in the Kitchen: cats on the counter, cats in the sink, cats everywhere! Whenever I see a cat have free reign over one’s kitchen, there’s no way I’m eating at theirs, no matter how many times you wipe the place down. Sorry cat owners!
- Open Hair While Cooking; There is absolutely nothing less appetising than finding hair in your meal – I don’t care how delicious the food; it is just plain gross. So do yourselves (and your guests) a favour ladies, and tie up your hair when cooking.
