Turmeric is a spice that comes from the ginger family, and is a favourite in many cuisines. Not only does it add colour to your food and works as a great flavour enhancer, it is also extremely good for you. Though there are many health benefits to adding small amounts of turmeric to your food, the best ones include:
- Lowers inflammation in the body
- Improves memory
- Acts as a natural pain reliever
- Acts as a natural antidepressant
- Aids in preventing cancer
- Lowers the risk of heart disease
These are just to name a few, and all great things to be aware of when preparing meals at home, especially for those of you with your own little fussy eaters. Unlike chunky vegetables that are harder to hide, healthy spices such as turmeric and cumin are a lot easier to get away with.
Just be careful when cooking with turmeric, its one downfall is that it stains easily, so try not to get it on your clothes or surfaces – Be sure to clean your countertops immediately, avoid white and always wear an apron!
