If, like many of us, you are trying to eliminate food waste, the best way to do that is by having a meal plan. Be it weekly or monthly, a set plan is the way to go. Once you figure that out, start making a shopping list – much like what you would do when having a gathering at home.
As consumers, the one thing we tend to overdo is buy more than we need – try NOT to do that. Whether you’re shopping for 1 or multiple people, the meal plan is there to help you determine how much you need of each ingredient.
If you prefer to shop in bulk however, be sure to only apply that to long-shelf-life items, as opposed to fresh foods. In the case of any excess (which will happen), save or freeze what you can, or try to incorporate them into your meal plan for the next round. It may sound daunting at first, but organisation is key. And like everything else, once you pick up the habit, it will become second nature.
Speaking of freezing, it’s always a good idea to keep some essential freezer items on hand. Check Out our blog post on Essential Freezer Items & Tips.
