Though Ramadan is a time for healthy eating, this notion is lost on most of us. Typically, it feels inevitable that we don’t stuff our faces when it comes time to eat. Afterwards, we’re left feeling bloated and miserable, and promising that we won’t make the same mistake tomorrow – yeh right!
Nonetheless, it’s never too late to start fresh. And here’s a list of tips to help you avoid overeating and bloating this Ramadan:
- Start with water, one small cup will do.
- Have a bowl of soup. This helps with indigestion which is common when fasting, and is a good source of fluids.
- If you find yourself feeling full after your soup, it is okay to stop here and resume eating an hour or two later.
- Balance is key; avoid eating unhealthy foods and aim for a meal that is high in proteins, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates.
- Never eat to the point of ‘stuffed’; eat slowly, listen to your body and stop when you’re full.
- If you’re craving sugar, opt for dates. If you’re not a fan, go for fresh fruits.
Follow these tips and I’m pretty sure you’ll find yourself feeling a lot healthier this Ramadan. Bon Appetit!
