Though seemingly simple enough, boiling an egg can be easy to mess up. Oftentimes we crack into them and find that they’re either too runny or overcooked. So how do you get a perfectly boiled egg every time?
- For starters, boil your water first. Pour enough in to submerge your eggs.
- Once boiling, bring to a simmer.
- Gently place your eggs into the water using a spoon or skimmer; do not drop them in.
- Bring the water back up to a boil.
- Set a timer and cook your eggs accordingly:
- 5 – 6 minutes for liquid yolks and soft whites – great for eggs & soldiers
- 6 ½ – 7 minutes for a soft, jammy yolk.
- 8 – 9 minutes for a medium yolk that’s slightly soft but firm.
- 10 minutes for only just well-done eggs
- 12 minutes for hard boiled eggs
- Take out of the water and place in an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
- Once cool to the touch, roll over a clean countertop until the shell is cracked on all sides and start peeling.
