Alya’s Fish Curry

Alya’s Fish Curry is a comfort food that is hard to beat! Full of flavour, zest and tang, this dish is a definite crowd pleaser, easy to makes and works best with a side of steamed rice and some fresh herbs on the side.

Alya’s Fish Curry

Prep Time : 15 MINUTES
Cooking Time : 15 – 20 MINUTES

Ingredients

  • Cooking Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Fish Fillet (of your choice) – 400g, 4 fillets, cut into bite sized pieces
  • Onion – 1 pc, Medium, chopped
  • Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  • Fenugreek Seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh Red Chili Pepper – 5 pc, kept whole
  • Garam Masala – 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves – 10
  • Chopped Tomatoes (canned) – 1 Can
  • Coconut Milk – 1/4 Cup (canned)
  • Salt – to taste
  • Fresh Coriander – to garnish
  • Fresh Green Chili Pepper – thinly sliced, to garnish (optional)
  • Method

    – Heat the oil in a pot and lightly brown the onions.

    – Add the mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and whole red chilis. Cook for 1 – 2 minutes until fragrant and the seeds are starting pop.

    – Add the curry leaves, garam masala, salt and garlic paste.

    – Stir until fragrant, then add the tomatoes and 1/2 cup of water.

    – Cook for 2 – 3 minutes, then add the fish. Let them cook for 1 minute on one side, then turn them over.

    – Cook for an additional minute, then add the coconut milk.

    – Leave to cook undisturbed (and uncovered) for at least 10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.

    – Garnish with the ginger, coriander and green chilis. Serve with naan bread or rice.
